About S.T.A.R. in the Martial Arts
Our innovative children's karate curriculum features the S.T.A.R. in the Martial Arts character education program. Developed here at our school in conjunction with the Jefferson Center, S.T.A.R. provides a framework to teach and reinforce the values of respect and responsibility. S.T.A.R means 'Stop, Think, Act, Review' or 'Success Through Accepting Responsibility'. This engaging, dynamic program encourages our students to be responsible for their actions. They learn not only the martial arts, but how to make the right decisions in life.
How does it work?
Each month we have a value based theme that parents are teaching at home and incorporate it in our daily lessons. We apply the theme in all of our children's class with a message of respect everywhere you go. We see the success of working with our parents to help them help their children reach for success. The S.T.A.R. program helps children realize that their choices effect them in every portion of their lives: home, school, restaurants, karate, and everywhere they go.
Each month when the student turns in their S.T.A.R. form in they are awarded a golden S.T.A.R. pin, the feeling of truly working hard for something you believe in and being recognized is a great feeling! S.T.A.R. also recognizes our students for their hard work at school, yes we ask our students to bring in their report cards. We look them over and really stress the importance of being your best person everyday in every way! Comments and Conduct speaks volumes on what type of person you are, these are more important than your grades.
